    Funchal, the capital of Madeira, is home to nearly half of Madeira’s population. There are no beaches in Funchal but this is more than compensated for by the fantastic coastal views, huge sea cliffs and dramatic flower clad mountains. The narrow uneven cobbled streets makes walking in the old town challenging - but it’s worth it for the atmosphere, Art galleries and antique shops. The resort also offers lots of bars, some discos, excellent restaurants and a casino. Fresh fish is a speciality and don’t forget to sample the local Madeirian wine.

    Funchal is ideal for couples and groups of friends who enjoy beautiful scenery and a relatively quiet nightlife.
